20th Annual Mastronardi Scholarships Awarded

June 10, 2014 marked a special day for the John Mastronardi Memorial Scholarship Committee, as the 20th Annual John Mastronardi Memorial Scholarships were awarded. The Library of the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Revere once again marked the site of the annual scholarship presentation ceremony. Revere High School graduates, Brittani Napoli and Alexa Dacey, were the recipients of the 2014 Scholarships. Napoli and Dacey were awarded scholarships in the amount of $3,000.00 and were presented with commemorative plaques honoring their high school achievements.

In 1995, the Mastronardi Memorial Fund Committee began awarding scholarships to deserving Revere High School graduates in memory of the late John Mastronardi.  Selected by the Revere High Guidance Department, the scholarship recipients are chosen based upon their academic success, as well as their desire to pursue a college degree in the field of Education of Special Education.  Further, Mastronardi scholarship recipients as selected because they best embody the spirit of John Mastronardi, a former Special Education teacher in the Revere Public Schools.

2014 Scholarship Recipients Brittani Napoli and Alexa Dacey

Alexa Dacey was a member of the Revere High School Student Council and played was a former varsity softball player for the RHS Patriots.  She gave up her athletic career to work at the Lincoln School in the after-school program.  Dacey will be attending Salem State University in the Fall of 2014 and plans to pursue a degree in Education.

Brittani Napoli, a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society, was enrolled in advanced placement courses at Revere High. She completed a full-year teaching internship at the Lincoln School.  She is the Arts Editor for the Patriot Gazette. She sang in the Revere High Chorus and teaches dance at the Winthrop School of Performing Arts. Brittani plans to continue her love for the arts in college. She is also enrolled at Salem State University for the Fall of 2014 and will major in Elementary Education.

Over the past twenty years, the John Mastronardi Memorial Fund has awarded 24 scholarships to deserving individuals, distributing a total of over $50,000.00 in scholarship money.
